Abstract

Two treatment regimens of gestational trophoblastic disease are compared in this retrospective study. Of 17 patients treated with methotrexate alone (MTX group), no methotreyxate resistant disease was developed. In contrast, 4(28.6%) out of 14 patients initially treated with methotrexate alternated with citrovorum factor rescuer (MTX-CF group) developed methotrexate-resistant disease and required a change in chemotherapy to achieve remission. Ultimately, remission was achieved in all patients. MTX group was found to be consistently more toxic than MTX-CF group.
It is concluded that MTX-CF at the dosage used in this study, while less toxic than MTX, is less effective than MTX in the induction of remission of gestational trophoblastis disease.
